Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz

The bad blood between welterweight champion Nick Diaz and challenger KJ Noons will finally get to boil over this Saturday. While Strikeforce brass believe both 170-pounders pack enough firepower to carry the Showtime broadcast, it’s their extensive entourages that caused the organization to heighten security measures inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

“I’ll tell you what, if we leave those two guys in a room alone, I think you know what’s going to happen,” Coker told MMAFighting.com. “So it’s up to us, we’re going to have a wall of security there. We’ve brought extra police to handle the weigh-ins, the press conference and pretty much a wall of people will be there for the night of the fight.

“We have to take precautionary measures because these guys have this big feud – and it’s not just them, it’s their camps. We’re going to make sure that we host it properly, and part of that is adding extra security and police officers, and it’ll be fine.”

You wouldn’t be completely off-base to think Coker is sharing this information just to help promote the event, but given Diaz’s track record for post-fight rumbles, it was an expense the company couldn’t afford not to invest in. Furthermore, his little brother and habitual instigator Nate Diaz will likely be accompanying him to the cage.

“It’s a little frustrating because this is not just good for us, it’s good for Nick,” Coker said of the added attention his champ demands. “But Nick is Nick, and it’s part of the mystique about him – he’s the bad boy of MMA. It is what it is, and in the future maybe we’ll handle it a little bit differently.

For those that believe the additional toy cops are unnecessary, here are the embarrassing brawls the Diaz Brothers currently stake claim to:

“EliteXC: Return of the King” (June 14th 2008):

“Strikeforce: Nashville” (April 17th 2010):
