UFC Lightweight Clay Guida

Clay Guida, also known as MMA’s modern day Energizer Bunny, announced on ESPN Chicago’s “MMA Tonight” that he’ll be ringing in the New Year with Japanese sensation Takanori Gomi at UFC 125.

Guida holds an extensive 27-11 record, but is only 7-5 inside the Octagon. He has rebounded nicely from disappointing back-to-back losses to Diego Sanchez and Kenny Florian by posting submission wins over Shannon Gugerty and Rafael dos Anjos, respectively.

Gomi is one of the Orient’s most accomplished competitors, however he got off to a slow start when he finally decided to make the jump stateside. After losing to Florian in his Octagon debut, “The Fireball Kid” bounced back with a resounding knockout victory over Tyson Griffin at “UFC  on Versus 2” in August.

He holds an impressive 32-6 mark overall and is now 1-1 in the UFC.

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada will host the pay-per-view broadcast.

Here are the fighters expected to participate in the New Year’s Day extravaganza:

Shane Carwin vs. TBD
Antonio McKee vs. Jacob Volkmann
Jason MacDonald and Rafael Natal
Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann
Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva
Takanori Gomi vs. Clay Guida
Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Lightweight Champion)
