With less than two weeks before his second WEC Middleweight title defense, Paulo Filho has been pulled off of the card due to “chemical dependence” according to Filho’s manager Jorge Guimaraes when he spoke to Sherdog earlier. It was a couple of weeks ago when Filho told Tatame that he was depressed and probably wouldn’t be able to fight on March 26th against Chael Sonnen.
Ed Soares later refuted the story, stating that Tatame caught Filho “at a bad time” and that he would be ready to fight.
Many had been wondering why Filho had looked so unimpressive in his two wins since joining the WEC, we now may know the reason. It’s unclear at this point in time as to what caused Filho’s depression, but we do know that he did check himself into a rehabilitation clinic in Brazil.
Guimaraes went on to say that Filho would be back in June and will be defending his title.
