MMA weekend in review

In a rather uneventful weekend, there were a couple of events that toook place that many of you may not of known of. Mirko Cro Cop made his DREAM debut this past Saturday, as well as The New York Badass’ return from his suspension and debut for ICON Sport.

Mirko Cro Cop dispatched Tatsuya Mizuno in the 1stRound by TKO and looked like the Mirko Cro Cop of old, except that he fought a less than admirable opponent. The ultimate test for Cro Cop will be whether or not he’ll be able to bounce back against tougher competition.

His most recent loss to Cheick Kongo may have been the most telling about Cro Cop’s mental toughness, but his goals are clear, he wants a  rematch against the world’s top MMA fighter in Fedor Emelianenko. Unfortunately for Mirko, Fedor may just be weeks away from signing with his former employer in Dana White.

Phil Baroni on the otherhand came up short in his fight against Kala Kolohe Hose for the ICON Sport Welterweight title that Robbie Lawler was stripped of. Baroni lost in the 5thRound after “blowing his wad” during the first and second rounds. Baroni showed a lot of heart, but Hose came out on top and is the new champion.

Baroni has a lot to prove in his comeback, but he’s on the right track as he gave fans another fight to remember. If you didn’t get a chance to watch the Baroni/Hose fight, make sure you head over to ProElite and watch it right now for free!
