It is being reported that a heavyweight battle between Cheick Kongo and two-time former UFC champion Frank Mir is slated for UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Kongo holds a 14-5-1 pro mark, however dropped a convincing unanimous decision to Cain Velasquez at UFC 99 in his last outing.
Speaking of being dominated, Mir unsuccessfully applied the face-to-fist defense against Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 a couple weeks back. Although Mir fought valiantly, he was simply overpowered by the massive undisputed heavyweight champion.
Mir’s camp tells Sportsnet they have not yet been approached about the scrap, however they are definitely down.
The timing does work out nicely for Kongo, as fellow Wolfslair teammate Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will be headlining the card against his “The Ultimate Fighter 10” coaching counterpart and bitter rival, Rashad Evans.
If this fight does come to fruition, Wolfslair better be working on Kongo’s takedown-D, sprawl and overall ground game as there is little doubt the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu wizard will look to exploit Kongo’s soft mat skills.
