According to MMAWeekly.com, an electric heavyweight scrap between Pat Barry and Joey Beltran has been added to the yet-to-be announced “UFC Fight Night 23: Fight for the Troops 2” on January 2nd.
Barry hasn’t been seen since being submitted by his idol Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 115 in June. The former K-1 star suffered a broken hand and broken foot in battle, but healed up in time to help former UFC heavyweight king Brock Lesnar prepare for his UFC 121 fight against Cain Velasquez.
Beltran holds a respectable 12-4 record, ending 11 in devastating fashion. He dropped a unanimous decision to Matt Mitrione in his last Octagon foray.
There’s been no official word if the bout between Barry and Beltran will make the televised broadcast, but with fireworks almost guaranteed between the two heavyweights it seems like a lock to make the main card.
The event is presumed to take place at Fort Hood in Kileen, Texas. Spike TV is expected to broadcast the show.
A pivotal lightweight battle between former top contender Kenny Florian and Evan Dunham will headline the freebie event.
Here are the fighters rumored for “Fight for the Troops 2”:
Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran
Mike Swick vs. David Mitchell
Mike Guymon vs. DaMarques Johnson
Melvin Guillard vs.Yves Edwards
Matt Mitrione and Tim Hague
Kenny Florian vs. Evan Dunham
