Former NFL legend Herschel Walker will make his long awaited MMA return against Scott Carson at “Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II” on December 4th.
“The goal with Herschel’s next fight is to put him in a little more competitive environment and let him test his skills,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told ESPN.com late Friday night.
Walker, who has been doing 2,500 sit-ups and 1,500 push-ups EVERY SINGLE DAY since high school, made his mixed martial arts debut against Greg Nagy this past January. The chiseled 48-year-old will look to build upon his impressive 3rdRound TKO victory against the little known Carson.
“I want to show that my experience level has increased a good deal,” Walker told Loretta Hunt. “I’ve become a much better MMA fighter. Last time, I was very green. This time, I’m going to be more skilled and have a lot more to display in the Strikeforce cage.”
Carson holds a respectable 4-1 pro record. After submitting his way to victory in his fist three outings, the 40-year-old took a 10-year hiatus from competitive fighting. He was knocked out by Lorenz Larkin this past June in his return to action.
“It’s a big honor to fight [Walker],” said Carson. “I’m a fan but I also believe he’s beatable and it’s a good matchup for me.”
The event takes place inside the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Renato “Babalu” Sobral will be granted his long awaited rematch against Dan Henderson in the card’s featured attraction.
