Lyoto Machida is looking to violently bounce back from the only loss of his pro career when he meets Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 123. Although “The Dragon” has a bevy of Brazilian talent to help him on his road to redemption, the former light heavyweight champ broke camp and enrolled in a quick session of Steven Seagal 101.
Nowadays, the only time Seagal’s name ever comes up is when it’s attached to the punchline of a joke. However, not too many moons ago he was a star on the silver screen courtesy of his Chuck Norris-like ways.
Seagal is currently a 7th dan degree and Shihan in Aikido. The 58-year-old moved to Japan in his late teens and became the first foreigner to operate an Aikido dojo in the country.
He is known by his students as Take Sensei. Based on the training video, it appears that’s what Machida will be addressing him from now on.
The clip is rather intense, as Seagal clearly has the 205-pounder’s full attention. Perhaps the countless throat shots Seagal lands has something to do with it.
UFC 123 will be jumping off this Saturday inside The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan.
