Many fighters, including Gegard Mousasi, were left frustrated and curious as to what would happen to them after Affliction’s demise. It appears Mousasi’s wait is over as Strikeforce has just officially announced that he will be fighting against Renato “Babalu” Sobral at “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg.”
August 15th’s Strikeforce card had taken a hit following the announcement that its heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem, would be unable to compete due to a re-injured hand that was suffered during a barfight.
Mousasi was originally scheduled to face Sobral at “Affliction: Trilogy” but after Affliction decided to pull the plug on promoting MMA events, all Affliction fighters were left out in the cold.
“I am very happy that STRIKEFORCE has resurrected this fight and that I will have the opportunity to become STRIKEFORCE world champion,” said Mousasi. “STRIKEFORCE is one of the world’s top promotions and I am proud to be a part of their roster of world-class fighters.”
