After a night of freebie MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded Nam Phan, Leonard Garcia, Cody McKenzie and Pablo Garza each an additional $30,000 for their special performances at “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale.”
Garcia and Phan kicked off the televised portion of Saturday’s Spike TV broadcast with 15 edge-of-your seat minutes. Although most viewers inside The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada felt Phan was robbed of a decision win, including Garcia himself, the Vietnamese-American won’t leave Vegas empty handed.
The pair took home “Fight of the Night” honors for their thriller.
While the the featherweights opted to go the distance, Garza quickly collected his cash by putting Fredson Paixao down in 51 strenuous seconds. Garza can thank his knee for winning the “Knockout of the Night” award and extra 30K.
Everyone on this side of duh knew McKenzie offers one of the best guillotine chokes in the business, yet Aaron Wilkinson served up his neck, nonetheless. McKenzie not only collected the commission, but his “Submission of the Night” win marked his ninth straight victory via guillotine.
