Even with the lack of finishes during “The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale,” MMA fans still tuned in to watch Jonathan Brookins take home the TUF 12 crown.
The TUF 12 Finale went straight-up against “Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu II” this past Saturday night. Some may say the UFC had an unfair advantage, as Spike TV has more than a 5-to-1 advantage in terms of availability compared to Showtime’s 18 million home subscriptions.
According to Spike TV, this weekend’s event pulled in a household rating of 1.4 and averaged 2 million viewers during the broadcast. Although it’s currently unknown exactly when the ratings topped out, the finale hit a high of 2.3 million viewers.
Fans were treated to a tremendous featherweight bout between Team Koscheck member Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia to kick off he broadcast. Although the contest was marred in another judging controversy, the tango certainly deserved its “Fight of the Night” billing.
The main event featured Georges St-Pierre’s top two draft picks.
Brookins was able to survive Michael Johnson’s early onslaught to secure the six-figure UFC contract via unanimous decision.
