Strikeforce Lightweight Josh Thomson

As expected, former Strikeforce lightweight champ Josh Thomson will meet Tatsuya Kawajiri at Dream’s “Dynamite!! 2010” New Year’s Eve card in Japan.

“I’ve wanted this fight forever,” said Thomson. “He’s somebody that excites me.”

Thomson holds an impressive 18-3 (1 NC) record and has won 10 of his last 11 contests. “The Punk’s” sole blemish during that stretch came at the hands of his homie and reigning Strikeforce title holder Gilbert Melendez.

Kawajiri owns a decorated 26-6-2 resume. The 32-year-old had won four consecutive fights until suffering a devastating submission loss to Dream title holder Shinya Aoki this past July.

Thomson vs. Kawajiri comes courtesy of Strikeforce and Dream’s willingness to exchange fighters in order to produce the most competitive bouts available outside of the Octagon.

“Dynamite!! 2010” will take place inside Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

Here are the fighters rumored/expected to participate in the HDNet broadcast:

Melvin Manhoef vs. TBD
Josh Thomson vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Jerome Le Banner vs. Gegard Mousasi
Hiroyuki Takaya vs. Bibiano Fernandes (Dream Featherweight Champion)
