Mauricio “Shogun” Rua recently spoke with Tatame about his recovery from knee surgery and it looks like he’s still a few months away from even beginning to do any sort of serious training. Rua explained, “I’m already well. I’m doing physiotherapy, running inside the swimming pool and swimming. In two or three months I may come back at a light training”
Three months puts Rua at June before he can begin “light training” where he would most likely begin to test out his surgically repaired knee to see how it holds up and then access from there how far away he would be from returning to the UFC.
It could be the end of 2008 before we see “Shogun” compete again as he would most certainly be more cautious this time around with his knee. For those who don’t remember, Rua may have rushed his return from his first knee surgery following the Forrest Griffin loss and was forced to pull out of a rumored bout with former Light Heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in June.
Time will tell how Rua responds from the knee surgeries as he only had a couple of fights under his belt following his elbow injury that he suffered against Mark Coleman.
