WEC Henderson Pettis 53

According to reports, an average of 615,000 viewers tuned in to witness Anthony Pettis’ spectacular “Showtime Kick” on former lightweight champ Ben Henderson at WEC 53 last Thursday.

MMAJunkie also confirmed with an industry insider the Versus broadcast garnered an impressive 0.62 household rating. Furthermore, the blue cage’s swan song finishes as the seventh-highest rated show in the promotion’s history.

The WEC’s grand finale showcased a pair of championship scraps. Bantamweight title holder Dominick Cruz successfully defended his belt against Scott Jorgensen in the card’s co-main event, while Henderson lost his strap to Pettis in the night’s featured attraction.

While Pettis had the cajones to bust out the never-before-seen strike in the 5thRound of a championship fight that was still up for grabs, the 23-year-old was rewarded handsomely for his roll of the dice.

Not only did Pettis’ dazzling kick earn him the #2 post on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays that evening, but he also peaked as the seventh hottest Googled topic the following day. The 23-year-old earned next dibs at the UFC lightweight title, as well.

WEC 53 took place inside the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
