Fresh off the biggest win of his professional career, Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub appears set to face MMA legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 128 in March.
MMAFighting.com confirmed the news of the pivotal heavyweight bout earlier this morning.
Schaub looked impressive against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 121 when he took home a unanimous decision victory. It was the Brazilian’s last bout for the company.
The Grudge Training Center product was a perfect 3-0 in 2010 and owns a 7-1 record overall. His lone loss came at “The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale” to Roy Nelson.
“Cro Cop,” on the other hand, was reluctant to pull the trigger in his unimpressive outing against Frank Mir this past September at UFC 119.
What made his performance so puzzling was that it came after he had finally strung together consecutive wins inside the Octagon.
Once the most feared striker in MMA, Filipovic has never showed stateside fans the form he once had when he was knocking out fighters in Pride during a torrid run from 2002-2006. Another loss for the Croatian could mark the end of his illustrious career.
UFC 128 is expected to take place March 19th from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will make his long-awaited return, as he defends his UFC light heavyweight title against Rashad Evans.
