Although Junior dos Santos already earned his shot at Cain Velasquez’s UFC heavyweight title, the Brazilian’s manager claims they will seek out other options due to the champ’s injured shoulder.
“He is not going to wait 6 months,” Ed Soares told MMAWeekly of his client’s agenda.
Velasquez originally suffered the injury during his four minute and 12 second smackdown of Brock Lesnar at UFC 121. However, news broke yesterday his torn rotator cuff will keep him out from six to eight months.
Dos Santos was last seen handing Roy Nelson a unanimous decision loss at UFC 117 in August. White was aiming for a summer 2011 return for Velasquez, which would have 2Santos out of action for nearly a year.
It would be a risky move for “Cigano” when considering the anything-can-happen factor. Particularly since Rashad Evans was rewarded with an extended vacation and next dibs at the light heavyweight crown courtesy of two consecutive unanimous decision victories.
