Alistair Overeem and Todd Duffee Will Fight for Dream’s Interim Title

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ Alistair Overeem

Those folks at Dream have taken procrastination to a whole new level. After waiting until the 11th hour to confirm Alistair Overeem would indeed face Todd Duffee at “Dynamite!! 2010,” the Japanese promotion has just announced the studs will vie to become the company’s first heavyweight champ.

Although the title will be of the interim variety, it adds even more drama to the star-studded extravaganza.

Overeem owns a 33-11 pro MMA record and has been perfect through his last eight scraps, less one (NC) to Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. The Strikeforce heavyweight king successfully defended his title against Brett Rogers in his only mixed martial arts contest of 2010.

Duffee had the world in the palm of his hands after posting a seven second knockout of Tim Hague at UFC 102 in August 2009. However, the up-and-comer was released following his UFC 114 loss to Mike Russow due to his “poor attitude.”

“Dream Dynamite!! 2010″ takes place December 31st inside the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. HDNet will broadcast the end of the year bash live in North America at 4AM ET/1AM PT.

Here is the proposed lineup for Friday’s fights:
