YES! The world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion has just announced the Octagon will make its long-awaited debut in Louisville, Kentucky. The KFC Yum! Center will host “UFC on Versus 3: Sanchez vs. Kampmann” on March 3rd.
The Versus broadcast features a pivotal welterweight affair between Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez.
Sanchez recently returned to the 170-pound division after a solid run at lightweight. However, following a title loss to then-champ B.J. Penn at UFC 107 he opted to move back up to the larger weight class.
The creator of the YES! cartwheel went on to lose a unanimous decision to John Hathaway at UFC 114, but rebounded in October for an impressive unanimous decision win over Paulo Thiago. After the victory, trainer Greg Jackson said his client would take at least one more fight at welterweight.
In steps the Dane. Kampmann dropped a controversial split decision to Octagon rookie Jake Shields at UFC 121. Prior to the loss, Kampmann posted a 4-1 record with wins over Carlos Condit, Jacob Volkmann and the aforementioned Thiago.
Here are the fighters expected to participate in the freebie fight card:
