Talk about reality drama. The UFC has done a masterful job of building up the hype for their vacant “The Ultimate Fighter 13” coaching spots. Octagon president Dana White finally put an end to the suspense by announcing Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos will serve as opposing tutors on the upcoming season.
“TUF 13” debuts March 30th on Spike TV. It is believed “The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale” will go down June 4th inside The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
After their protégés complete their welterweight tournament, White confirmed during Tuesday’s conference call Lesnar and 2Santos will do battle in June, likely the following weekend. UFC 131 is rumored to take place June 11th inside the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.
White reiterated they will not manufacture an interim title belt. The winner will advance to challenge Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight crown once he returns from shoulder surgery.
Speaking of Velasquez, he steamrolled Lesnar so badly for his strap at UFC 121, many believed the former WWE superstar’s days of real fighting were over and done with. He holds a 5-2 MMA record, but four of his scraps have been of the championship variety.
“Cigano” owns a nearly perfect 12-1 resume and has ended 11 of his victims before the final horns have sounded. He posted a unanimous decision victory over Roy Nelson in his last outing, which earned him his ‘Heavyweight Top Contender’ moniker.
“The Ultimate Fighter 10” featured street fighting legend Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and provided record-setting marks for Spike TV. This season is sure to blow those numbers out of the cage.
