UFC Lightweights Frankie Edgar Gray Maynard

Octagon president Dana White has confirmed with MMAFighting that Frankie Edgar will make his second consecutive title defense against Gray Maynard at UFC 130 on May 28th.

It’s like déjà vu all over again for Edgar, as he’ll be entering the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with the hardware looking to avenge his 2008 loss to Maynard. It’s the only blemish on his resume.

The lightweights kicked off 2011 with a highly controversial draw at UFC 125. Although the challenger layeth the smacketh down in the 1stRound, Edgar showed the heart of a true champion and managed to survive the onslaught.

A couple of hotly contested rounds later, most notably three and five, and both fighters were forced to exit the Octagon in disgust. The bright side for Edgar is that he left Las Vegas with the title in tow.

WEC champ Anthony Pettis was set to unify the crown against the victor at UFC 125, but it appears Clay Guida may be in his future now that Edgar vs. Maynard 3 has been arranged.

Here are the fighters rumored for the yet-to-be announced extravaganza:

Travis Browne vs. Stefan Struve
Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story
Anthony Pettis vs. Clay Guida
Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Thiago Silva
Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Lightweight Champion)
