UFC Champ Frankie Edgar FINALLY Favored to Win a Fight

UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar

Despite the vicious heat wave that has taken over Southern California, it appears hell has indeed frozen over. After Fedor Emelianenko defied all odds by finally signing his contract extension to remain with Strikeforce, now it appears UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar might actually be a favorite to win a fight.

Although his trilogy with Gray Maynard has yet to be officially announced, it hasn’t stopped the Gambling Gods from dropping their two cents on the subject. For the first time in his last four outings, little Frankie is expected to leave the Octagon with his hand raised and title in tow.

Despite sweeping former lightweight king BJ Penn for arguably 50 championship minutes as a long shot, Edgar still entered his UFC 125 rematch with Maynard as the underdog. After surviving an early 1stRound beatdown, Edgar unleashed the heart of a true champion and forced Maynard to go the distance.

While both 155-pounders swore they had each done enough to leave Las Vegas with the belt, two of the three judges thought otherwise and provided the ultimate New Year’s Day surprise.

Company officials have yet to confirm when the trilogy will go down, but UFC 130 in May has emerged as the front-runner to play host.

Here are the early betting odds for Edgar vs. Maynard 3 (Courtesy of BetUS):

Gray Maynard -105
Frankie Edgar -125

  • Maynard’s line was at +105 when I wrote this article last night. It appears some money has already started to move on his side, as his line has slightly adjusted. Edgar is still favored, nonetheless.

Maynard’s odds have been updated in the piece.

Thanks for the head’s up @ppopstick!

  • Agreed, Edgar has been under-rated for awhile now and its time he gets recognized for the true talent that he is. I met maynard in montreal 3 years ago just after their first fight and he was great, down to earth easy going and liked canadian Beer. Hard not to like the guy however I think it will be harder than ever to catch edgar this time.
