UFC Middleweight Vitor Belfort

Although Vitor Belfort’s resurrected career has Shawn Tompkins’ fingerprints all over it, the UFC middleweight opted to part ways with the famed striking coach as he enters the biggest fight of his life.

While much has been made of Belfort’s move to Xtreme Couture and his courting of Mike Tyson, Tompkins claims it’s just par for the course when it comes to the Brazilian.

“Vitor has done this before. Vitor, sometimes he gets a little clouded in his head. It’s not that he brought in Mike Tyson or anything like that,” Tompkins told TheFightShow (transcribed by FightOpinion).

“Vitor just wanders and he goes where what’s happening, what’s famous, what’s popular and he’ll go over there and Mike Tyson isn’t teaching him anything. Neither is the other eight gyms that he’s training at.”

Belfort challenges Anderson Silva for his title at UFC 126. Most believe he hopped gyms because Xtreme Couture houses more wrestlers, a facet that nearly cost “The Spider” his crown at UFC 117.

Whatever Belfort’s motives were for jumping ship is unknown. Regardless, Tompkins believes “The Phenom” won’t require GPS in order to find his way back home. That’s because there is no such place for the wanderer.

“Just because he’s over at Couture’s and not with me doesn’t mean he’s with Couture’s. Vitor isn’t loyal to anybody. We’ve seen it before,” Tompkins added.

“I hope for the best for him, but for a guy who told me about respect, loyalty, and God and all this stuff for so many years, he sure did prove the opposite. So, we’ll see.”

UFC 126 takes place February 5th inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
