After a night of free MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded Cody McKenzie and Melvin Guillard each an additional $30,000 for their special performances Saturday night at “UFC Fight for the Troops 2.”
However, Yves Edwards was the card’s biggest winner. The veteran double-dipped for Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night honors, leaving Fort Hood in Kileen, Texas with an extra $60k in bonuses.
After avoiding numerous rear-naked choke submission attempts for the better part of the middle stanza, Edwards rallied to secure a RNC of his own just before the 2ndRound horn blared. Although McKenzie was put to sleep, he was rewarded with a nice parting gift for his troubles.
Guillard was nearly a 2-to-1 underdog against Evan Dunham in the night’s featured contest, but used his superior speed to overwhelm the talented Xtreme Couture-trained fighter. The controversial lightweight motioned for a title shot immediately following his impressive 1stRound TKO victory.
