According to ESPN.com, Strikeforce will complete the last leg of their Grand Prix quarterfinals on April 9th.
Alistair Overeem faces Fabricio Werdum in the card’s featured attraction. The heavyweights will meet in the opening round of Strikeforce’s Grand Prix.
Former UFC champion Josh Barnett will meet Brett Rogers in another quarterfinals matchup.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told ‘The worldwide leader in sports’ Japan has emerged the favorite to host the star-studded show. However, the soft-spoken promoter added North America and Brazil are still in the running.
Coker said the famed Saitama Super Arena, home of countless Pride and Dream classics, has been ruled out. The company has never held an event in the Orient.
Strikeforce’s shot-caller also confirmed lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez will defend his title against a yet-to-be announced opponent on the card.
The first half of the Grand Prix takes place February 12th inside the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
