Although “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg” didn’t pack the glitz and glamour of a UFC event, it did provide something an MMA show hasn’t done in quite some time – finishes in every single fight.
Less the three amateur bouts that kicked off the highly anticipated card, fans inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California witnessed 10 scraps that didn’t require the opinions of the three judges sitting cage-side.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza defeated Robbie Lawler via rear-naked choke in the night’s co-main event to retain his middleweight belt. A welterweight title bout between champ Nick Diaz and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos headlined the Showtime broadcast.
Diaz withstood an early barrage of leg kicks to secure a 2ndround armbar submission victory.
Between their spectacular finishes, ridiculously anticipated Heavyweight Grand Prix and assumed access to CBS, MMA’s other promotion appears adamant over making significant waves in the new decade.
