The California State Athletic Commission has released the official paydays for Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg” event inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
As expected, the card’s headliner walked away with the night’s largest reported purse. Welterweight champion Nick Diaz took home a flat $150,000 for his 2ndRound submission victory over Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos.
Diaz should be able to upgrade his Honda now…
Although Herschel Walker was the event’s biggest superstar, appearing on numerous ESPN pre-fight interviews, he only pocketed $5,000 for bumping his MMA record to a perfect 2-0.
Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes.
Additionally, they do not contain money paid by sponsors or any bonuses from Strikeforce. These royalties can include Fight Night bonuses, secret somethin’ somethin’ handshakes, etc., which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.
