Yesterday during the UFC 126 media workouts, Vitor Belfort accused middleweight king Anderson Silva of putting on a front to intimidate his past victims. During Friday’s weigh-ins, “The Spider” retaliated by rocking a Jabbawockeez mask when he and Belfort stood face-to-face.
After both Brazilians each tipped the scales at 185 pounds, making Saturday’s highly anticipated championship affair official, the former amigos exchanged some heated words and had to be separated by company officials.
Belfort quickly took the mic to clarify Thursday’s comments, as it clearly irritated the world’s baddest middleweight.
“I said he wears a mask,” Belfort reiterated. “I know him. He’s a good man. But in fights, it’s not him and he tries to put on a show.
“He’s a good man. He’s got a good heart, but tomorrow is a fight.”
Silva, on the other hand, was greeted with a loud chorus of boos when he tried to explain himself through translator Ed Soares. Regardless, the controversial champ wasn’t about to issue any apologizes for his behavior.
“You came here to see a show,” Silva said. “Vitor talks a lot, and you guys are going to see a show.”
UFC 126 takes place Saturday inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pay-per-view broadcast begins live at 10PM ET/7PM ET.
