With what could possibly be the biggest day in MMA history when EliteXC holds the first live event on network television, ProElite the parent company of EliteXC wasted no time in re-signing its top stars. In a press release sent out yesterday, it was announced that YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice, current EliteXC Middleweight champion Robbie Lawler and female superstar Gina Carano have, “all re-signed with us [EliteXC],” according to EliteXC President Gary Shaw.
The final card for the May 31st network event will be announced within the coming days, but we do know that Kimbo Slice will be fighting against James Thompson. “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler will be defending his title against Scott Smith and Gina Carano will face Kaitlin Young.
Gary Shaw went on to say, “fighters know EliteXC is the place to be and the organization to fight for, which is why we’ve always been able to sign or re-sign almost each and every one of our fighters,” and , “you don’t see our guys leaving. With us, it’s family and all about the fighters. Every fighter who has fought on an EliteXC card has come away being ambassadors for EliteXC.”
It sounds like Shaw was taking a stab at Dana White and the UFC with that last statement, but no matter what it was a huge move for EliteXC and look for them to be very active with fighters who are leaving the UFC (Tito Ortiz).
