Travis Lutter looking to cash in on second chance

Dana White’s doghouse is somewhere you don’t want to be, just ask the guys over at Sherdog. Unfortunately that’s where Travis Lutter found himself after not making weight for his title match with Anderson Silva at UFC 67. It could be argued that dehydration from weight-cutting may have cost Lutter as Silva was able to sink in a triangle choke against a sluggish Lutter.

Although Lutter tried to make best with the cards that he dealt himself, Silva’s superior technique on that night was too much.

Now Lutter is set to face-off against former UFC Middleweight champion Rich “Ace” Franklin at UFC 83 in Canada. Neither fighter should have the advantage with the fans, but Franklin is obviously the more well known fighter. There’s no way to know if Lutter is still in Dana White’s doghouse, but a win over Franklin would definitely put him back in line for another Middleweight title shot.

Earlier last week, Lutter was quoted as saying that, “I still think I could beat him [Anderson Silva]”.

Some would think that Lutter is crazy in that assessment, while others would look at the 1stRound of their fight and say that Lutter dominated the 1stRound and nearly had the fight stopped by the referee.

Lutter if you remember was supposed to fight Franklin earlier this year, but a knee injury forced Franklin out of the match. Lutter challenged the injury, questioning Franklin’s quick healing as a sign that his knee was never injured in the first place. Now Lutter will look to continue his road back to a possible title shot after he blew a golden opportunity after winning season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series.
