UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar

Heading into 2011, Shari Spencer was one of MMA’s most powerful mangers as she guided the careers of UFC champions Georges St-Pierre and Frankie Edgar. Fast forward six weeks and The Spencer Firm now find themselves without a single mixed martial artist under their watch.

A month after losing the sport’s most marketable athlete, Spencer confirmed her “amicable” split with Edgar to MMAFighting late Tuesday evening.

As in St-Pierre’s case, no reason was given for their break-up.

Edgar signed with Spencer in 2009, prior to capturing the 155-pound title from BJ Penn at UFC 112. Although she was spearheading Team Edgar at UFC 125, it appears the New Year’s Day event was her last with the Jersey boy.

It is unknown who will represent Edgar for UFC 130 when he puts his lightweight belt on the line against Gray Maynard. They fought to a highly controversial draw in last month’s rematch.

While most business would file for Chapter 11 after suffering the Q1 Spencer has, her team is currently pursuing other MMA and non-MMA related options.
