On Saturday night inside the IZOD Center in New Jersey, Fedor Emelianenko proved the eye-to-fist defense is not the business in any country. Courtesy of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, the Russian will not only be heading home with his second consecutive loss, but a battered right eye to boot.
After a wild opening round by both heavyweights, Silva used his superior size advantage to plant Emelianenko on his back and batter him for the better part of the 2ndRound. Although he managed to survive the barrage, the cage-side doctor wouldn’t allow Emelianenko to enter the final round.
Silva advances to the semifinals of Strikeforce’s Heavyweight Grand Prix. The Brazilian will face the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum, the man responsible for sending Fedor on this downward spiral.
