Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has been pulled from UFC Fight Night 24‘s main event. The promotion has elected to go with Phil Davis to cover for Ortiz in Seattle on March 26th.
“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” had been scheduled to face Antonio Rogeria Nogueira in the night’s featured contest, but an injury will force him off of the card.
UFC.com reports Ortiz had bumped heads with a training partner, which produced a gash that required stitches. He also suffered a concussion in the process.
Next month’s bout was pegged as a “must-win” situation for the former title holder, who hasn’t won a significant bout since his controversial split-decision victory over Forrest Griffin at UFC 59.
Ortiz has been issued a loss in four out of his last five Octagon appearances, with the other outcome being a draw against fellow former champion Rashad Evans.
Davis will look to keep his unblemished record intact against his toughest test to date.
UFC Fight Night 24 will take place at Key Arena in Seattle, Washington. Spike TV will br0adcast the show free.
