UFC Michael Bisping Jorge Rivera 127

“UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch” took place inside the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Former multi-divisional champion BJ Penn faced Jon Fitch in the card’s featured attraction. The welterweights were battling for next dibs at the welterweight crown.

After 15 grueling minutes of action, two of the three judges deemed there wasn’t enough evidence inside the Octagon to declare a definitive winner. As a result, the 170-pound top contender bout concluded in a highly controversial (29-28 Fitch, 28-28, 28-28) majority draw.

Speaking of drama, after Michael Bisping ended Jorge Rivera’s night early with a 2ndRound TKO drubbing, the boisterous Brit spit in the direction of Rivera’s corner and proceeded to taunt his battered rival to his face. He clearly didn’t appreciate “El Conquistador’s” pre-fight videos.

Bisping immediately apologized for his despicable behavior, but the damage may have already been done.

Post-Fight Press Conference Notes:

UFC president Dana White did not attend the presser.

UFC managing director of international development Marshall Zelaznik said 18,186 rabid Aussies packed the Acer Arena in Sydney, earning the company a live gate of $3.5 million.

James Te Huna is donating his full fight purse to New Zealand earthquake relief and the UFC is matching his contribution.

Michael Bisping claimed if Jorge Rivera wants him suspended for his post-fight antics, it’s “one classless move after another” from him and his camp. However, the Brit apologized again for his inappropriate actions following his victory.

Jon Fitch stated he was disappointed with his performance and wished he didn’t have to face the “title shot” question any longer.

BJ Penn said he understands Fitch wants to fight for the belt next, but believes Fitch needs to post a win over him before advancing to a championship affair.
