Although another night of MMA action was marred in controversy, the world’s premier mixed martial arts promotion can hang their hats on another successful event in the land down under.
Immediately following “UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch,” Marshall Zelaznik, the Octagon’s managing director of international development, said there were 18,186 rabid Aussies packed inside the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.
According the Zelaznik, the UFC’s second trip to Australia brought in $3.5 million at the gate, $1 million more than their initial foray this past February.
Even with UFC 129‘s massive ticket sales, UFC 127 tied the promotion’s record for fastest sellout. Fans only needed 22 minutes to snatch up all of the arena’s seats.
With all of the massive hype leading up to Saturday night’s pay-per-view broadcast, fans were disappointed with the anticlimactic majority draw that was rendered in the night’s main event between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch.
