Although Diego “Don’t Call Me Nightmare” Sanchez’s face was battered beyond recognition on Thursday night at “UFC on Versus 3,” he managed to take home a controversial unanimous decision victory over Martin Kampmann, nonetheless.

Kampmann thoroughly dominated the former “The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner in the opening round courtesy of his world class kickboxing resume. However, things quickly turned in the second stanza when Sanchez’s shots continued to get stuffed and he turned their contest into a good ‘ol fashioned shootout.

On the flipside, it can be argued Kampmann allowed Sanchez to take him out of his technical game.

The 3rdRound was fairly similar to the middle round, but Sanchez briefly secured a takedown. As the clock was ticking down, Kampmann connected on a vicious right and broke his hand. The left side of “Dream’s” face immediately inflated.

When the dust settled, all three judges sitting just inches from the action awarded Sanchez the 29-28 win – much to the dismay of the Dane.

“He caught me with some shots, but I thought I won all three rounds,” a disappointed Kampmann said.

Here’s what UFC president Dana White tweeted immediately after the scores were read, “Diego won that fight for sure! Wow!!!”
