Alright, so leaving the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky with a victory over Diego Sanchez was priority numero uno. However, it appears the lucrative package offered in Plan-B will certainly ease the pain in Martin Kampmann’s heart, hand and home mortgage payments.
UFC president Dana White was in a rather generous mood after hosting his freebie fight card on Thursday night. After initially awarding Sanchez and Kampmann $40,000 each for ‘Fight of the Night’ honors, the same total as the card’s other two bonus winners, White upped the ante by giving the welterweights each an additional $20k for their breathtaking battle.
While a $60,000 commission check for a non-pay-per-view broadcast is already well out of the norm, White blasted the bonus doors wide open an hour later by telling Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports he proceeded to reward the card’s featured fighters with an ADDITIONAL $100,000 EACH.
Therefore, Sanchez and Kampmann each pocketed $160,000 just in bonuses alone. That equates to roughly $10,666/ minute. Not too shabby for a small show in the sticks.
Both athletes will need the extra cheddar while they mend from their 15-minute instant classic. Kampmann claims he broke his right hand on Sanchez’s face, while Diego’s face looks like someone broke their hand on it.
