Dream Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki

According to MMA-Japan, Shinya Aoki will make his long awaited stateside return against Lyle Beerbohm at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.” The lightweights are expected to do battle on April 9th inside the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.

In his first foray on U.S. soil, Aoki was thoroughly outwrestled by Gilbert Melendez at “Strikeforce: Nashville” for the 155-pound title. The controversial grappler went on to win his next three MMA scraps in Japan, but was most recently put to sleep in a bizarre mixed-rules bout against Yuichiro Nagashima at “Dynamite!! 2010.”

Beerbohm, on the other hand, holds an impressive 15-1 overall record. Unfortunately for the talented 22-year-old, he was handed a unanimous decision loss last month to Pat Healy for his first pro blemish.

Showtime will broadcast the main card live starting at 10PM ET/PT.

Here are the athletes rumored for Strikeforce’s debut in San Diego:

Individual Bouts:

KJ Noons vs. TBD
Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm
Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle
Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Gilbert Melendez (Strikeforce Lightweight Champion)
Paul Daley vs. Nick Diaz (Strikeforce Welterweight Champion)
