According to New Jersey State Athletic Control Board legal counsel Nick Lembo, veteran Herb Dean will join light heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Jon Jones inside the Octagon this Saturday at UFC 128.
Dean is one of the most highly respected referees in mixed martial arts. UFC president Dana White has dubbed him “the best in the business” for the last couple of years, but some of that can also be linked to White’s beef with “Big” John McCarthy.
In addition, Lembo told MMAFighting Douglas Crobsy, Cardo Urso and Dave Tirelli will be scoring the action from cageside. While MMA judging has come under heavy fire, Shogun and Jones don’t intend on burdening the three officials on Saturday night.
“Bones” holds an impressive 12-1 record and has ended 10 of his victims before the final horns have sounded. Shogun owns a 19-4 resume, with only two of his wins coming via decision.
UFC 128 takes place this Saturday inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The pay-per-view broadcast begins live at 10PM ET/7PM PT.
