Although Wanderlei Silva is spearheading a Twitter campaign aimed at arranging a shootout with Chris Leben, it appears UFC president Dana White has some Brazilian-on-Brazilian crime on his mind.
“No. That’s what Wanderlei wants, that’s not the fight we want for Wanderlei,” White told MMAFighting of a proposed bout against Leben. “We want Vitor Belfort.
“Wanderlei versus Vitor. That’s the fight I want, Wanderlei knows I want that fight. Vitor is ready to roll.”
When asked if Wandy would be interested in a scrap with Belfort after aggressively targeting “The Crippler,” White suggested fight fans should follow @wandfc in order to find out the answer.
“I don’t know, let’s find out. Run and tweet that, homeboy,” White stated.
Belfort was last seen executing the face-to-foot defense against 185-pound king Anderson Silva at UFC 126. Unfortunately for “The Phenom,” the theory proved unsuccessful as he was issued a 1stRound TKO loss for his efforts.
“The Axe Murderer” claims a dominant 33-10-1 record and managed to avoid another disastrous three-fight losing streak by defeating Michael Bisping at UFC 110. Although the win was a much needed one, the PrideFC legend has dropped five of his last seven scraps overall.
Silva has been recovering from a July knee surgery and has actively used Twitter to help pass the time.
White did not mention when he would like to arrange the meeting between the icons. However, the Octagon makes its long-awaited return to Brazil on August 27th. #JustSayin
