The world’s premier MMA organization has announced the welterweight rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch will go down at UFC 132 on July 2nd. The show is expected to take place inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 170-pounders fought to a highly controversial (29-28 Fitch, 28-28, 28-28) majority draw at UFC 127 last month. After 15 grueling minutes of action, two of the three judges deemed there wasn’t enough evidence inside the Octagon to declare a definitive welterweight top contender.
Both superstars felt they had each done enough to leave Sydney, Australia with their hand raised.
In addition, a critical lightweight affair between Evan Dunham and George Sotiropoulos will also appear in the card.
Dunham is coming off back-to-back losses after starting out his pro career with a perfect 11-0 mark. Last September he dropped a highly contentious split decision to former UFC champ Sean Sherk. This past January Melvin Guillard put him down in under three minutes at “UFC Fight for the Troops 2.”
Sotiropoulos had rattled off eight straight wins heading into his UFC 127 contest with Dennis Siver. However, Sotiropoulos was outstruck throughout their 15-minute affair and posted a disappointing unanimous decision as a result.
