UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones

“UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones” took place Saturday night inside the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey. Jon Jones used his superior EVERYTHING to dominate reigning light heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for his crown.

It took the 23-year-old less than a minute to plant Shogun on his back. Although their scrap went into the 3rdRound, it was pretty much over in the opening stanza. Shogun returned to his corner battered, bruised and breathing heavily, while the challenger was cooler than a polar bear’s toenails.

Although it appeared he paced himself through the second round, Jones still took the five minutes handily. He was clearly saving his best for last.

While he previously predicted a rear-naked choke victory, Jones had to settle for a 3rdRound TKO win instead.

Perhaps “Bones” should fight crime prior to every title fight from here on out.

UFC 128 Post-Fight Press Conference:

Dana White:

Jones appears to be a “miles ahead” of the competition and deserves Pound-for-Pound consideration.

40 people already asked about Jones vs. Anderson Silva. “The Spider” wants to stay at middleweight, but now that Jones is champ, we’ll see.

White has no idea when Rashad Evans and Jon Jones will fight.

This was the last time we’ll see Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic inside an Octagon.

Jon Jones:

(Kisses Urijah Faber on the cheek as he enters the presser. Jones is signed to Faber’s Form Athletics clothing company.)

“I don’t consider my moves flashy, I think they are unpredictable.”

Jones said he owes it to his family to take some time off.

He retold the story of his criminal-catching ways from earlier in the day. The media room applauded when he was done.

Jones concentrated on relaxing his body so he could be as fluid as possible.

Urijah Faber:

Pleased about the win but not happy about performance. His body is still adjusting to the being a bantamweight. There was a little nervousness finally fighting in the UFC.

Really pushing for a coaching spot on “The Ultimate Fighter” opposite his mortal enemy and reigning champ Dominic Cruz.
