Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell has been forced to withdraw from UFC 85, which was scheduled to take place in London, England. Sherdog.com confirmed on Monday that Liddell has badly torn his hamstring while training for his June 7th bout against Rashad Evans.
“Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week, and being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him,” said UFC president Dana White. “But I wouldn’t let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent.”
UFC 85 once looked like a promising card, where Liddell was initially slated to take on top ranked Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who himself was forced to pull out due to lack of progress that his surgically repaired knee is experiencing. Shogun was ultimately replaced by Evans to take on Liddell.
Now the UFC is left looking for a replacement to fight the replacement. Sherdog.com reported that UFC veteran James Irvin may be the front runner to replace Liddell and fight Evans.
White didn’t seem too concerned about the depleted card stating, “We’re adding fights to the card and rearranging it so the UK fans won’t have to worry, we’ll still be bringing an amazing card to London and the O2 Arena.”
