While most of the nation was busy watching the NCAA National Championship game, the world’s premier mixed martial arts show tried to steal the spotlight by announcing Wanderlei Silva will make his comeback fight against Chris Leben. The middleweights will do battle at UFC 132, so expect some fireworks this July 4th weekend.
Silva had launched a massive Twitter campaign in an attempt to arrange a shootout with Leben. However, White was adamant about organizing some Brazilian-on-Brazilian crime between Silva and former top contender Vitor Belfort – much to “The Axe Murderer’s” dismay.
That’s when White dropped his infamous “Run and tweet that, homeboy” comment directed at Wanderlei. Well, the UFC tweeted something else Monday afternoon, as the former PrideFC champ was granted his wish.
Silva hasn’t been seen since taking a unanimous decision victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 110 in February 2010. Leben, on the other hand, suffered a TKO loss to Brian Stann at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day.
Speaking of Stann, Wandy previously turned down a fight with the American war hero, as well.
UFC 132 takes place July 2nd inside the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here are the athletes expected to participate in the pay-per-view broadcast:
BJ Penn vs. TBD
Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman
Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller
George Sotiropoulos vs. Evan Dunham
Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben
Urijah Faber vs. Dominick Cruz (UFC Bantamweight Champion)
