Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez

Two days after dropping countless bombs on Japanese star Tatsuya Kawajiri to retain his title, Strikeforce lightweight champ Gilbert Melendez will be throwing some heat tonight at PETCO Park.

“El Nino” will fire out the ceremonial first-pitch this evening before the San Diego Padres host the Cincinnati Reds. Melendez is expected to take the mound at approximately 7PM local time.

Melendez bumped his professional MMA record to a dominant 19-2 after disposing of Kawajiri inside the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego on Saturday. Keyboard warriors across the globe are currently debating whether the talented 28-year-old is the baddest 155-pounder on the planet.

The Padres, on the other hand, have started out the baseball season winning only half of their eight games.

FYI – The Padres are -121 favorites to beat the Reds.
