It appears Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez can put their Twitter beef to bed, at least for the time being, as the planet’s biggest MMA promotion announced Wednesday Kampmann’s next fight will come against John Howard at “UFC on Versus 4.”
“Verbal agreements are in for a battle between two of the best strikers in the welterweight division as John Howard takes on Martin Kampmann,” said UFC President Dana White.
The June 26th bout could be a loser-leaves-town type of matchup, as both 170-pounders have dropped two consecutive Octagon scraps. The reverse trifecta has been the kiss of death for most fighters, though Kampmann’s slide comes packed with controversy.
“The Hitman” owns a 17-5 professional record and most recently dropped a highly controversial unanimous decision to Sanchez at “UFC on Versus 3.” Although he busted up Sanchez’s face beyond recognition last month, the slugger was forced to accept his second straight defeat.
Speaking of desperately needing a W, Howard holds a 14-6 record and is also in the midst of a two-fight skid. He was last seen getting steamrolled by Thiago Alves at UFC 124 in December.
“UFC on Versus 4” takes place inside the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Versus will broadcast the show live at 9PM ET/6PM PT.
Here are the athletes expected to appear in the freebie fight card:
