Strikeforce Welterweight Champ Nick Diaz

Less than one week removed from pocketing a cool $175,000 for his gutty 1stRound TKO victory over Paul Daley, Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz is clearly still irked his bank account doesn’t possess as many zeroes as he prefers.

In an exclusive interview with HDNet’s “Inside MMA,” Diaz’s longtime coach Cesar Gracie claimed they have “already signed on the dotted line” for a boxing match against Fernando Vargas. According to the Brazilian jiu jitsu guru, they are currently waiting on Vargas’ representatives to accept the September/October scrap inside the squared-circle.

Diaz owns an impressive 25-7 mixed martial arts record and has finished off 21 of his victims before the final horns have blared. The 27-year-old is widely considered as the best 170-pounder competing outside of the Octagon.

The preview includes a brief rant by Diaz, where he once again expresses his displeasure in his paycheck. While Diaz has complained all the livelong day about being broke, he claims he’s currently signed to a contract he “doesn’t know anything about.”

Not too many moons ago, Vargas was one of the world’s better boxers. He has lost three straight matches and is scheduled to fight Henry Buchanan this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Inside MMA” airs this Friday at 9PM ET on HDNet.
