The world’s biggest MMA promotion confirmed Tuesday Ross Pearson will meet fellow lightweight Edson Barboza at “UFC 134: Rio” on August 27th.
“Verbal agreements are in place for a big match on August 27th in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil,” UFC resident Dana White stated. “Unbeaten Brazilian Edson Barboza takes on Ultimate Fighter 9 winner Ross ‘The Real Deal’ Pearson.”
Pearson holds a 12-4 professional record and has won five of his last fights. The Brit was last seen handing Spencer Fisher a unanimous decision loss at UFC 127 in February.
“I am very excited to fight in Brazil. I’ve already fought in Las Vegas, Sydney and now I am fighting in Rio,” Pearson stated. “Being a UFC fighter means you are one of the best in the world and you fight the best in the world all over the world each fight.
“It’s a great match for me against a guy who’s got a great reputation. Barboza likes to have a war and so do I, I think we can put on the ‘Fight of the night.’”
Speaking of collecting bonus checks, Barboza is fresh off a ‘Fight of the Night’ victory over Anthony Njokuani at UFC 128. The talented 25-year-old owns a flawless 8-0 mixed martial arts resume, with all but one of his wins coming via devastating finish.
UFC 134 takes place inside the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Middleweight champion Anderson Silva will headline the pay-per-view broadcast opposite Japanese star Yushin Okami.
