The Ontario Athletic Commission has suspended the entire 24-man roster for “UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields.” The record-setting show took place this past Saturday inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre successfully defended his title against Jake Shields in the night’s featured contest, however he didn’t get away unscathed. After collecting his ninth straight victory, GSP was immediately sent to the hospital to have his left eye tested.
St-Pierre tweeted on Sunday that he still couldn’t see out of the eye, but was told by physicians there wasn’t a problem with his retina. He will be reexamined within the coming days, although doctors expect a full recovery.
In addition to St-Pierre, Mark Hominick and his second forehead, Randy Couture, Jason Brilz, Sean Pierson, Charlie Valencia and Kyle Watson were all issued 60-day suspensions. Two months was the longest ban given at UFC 129.
As customary with all events that take place in Canada, the card’s complete lineup will be forced to sit the sidelines for various injuries sustained in their respective scraps. Although, most of the athletes received 14-day precautionary suspensions.
