UFC Welterweight Jake Ellenberger

It took welterweight Jake Ellenberger all of two minutes and 42 seconds to put Sean Pierson to sleep at “UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields” this past Saturday. Unfortunately for the fast-rising star, the 1stRound knockout victory will cost him the full functionality of his left hand for the time being.

“Getting [surgery] on my hand in a hour. Broke my left hand @ufc 129 in Toronto. Praying for a fast recovery! God bless America,” Ellenberger tweeted Tuesday morning.

God bless America, indeed!

“The Juggernaut” bumped his record to an impressive 25-5 mark following Saturday’s violent win inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. Twenty of Ellenberger’s career victories have been of the devastating finish variety.

No word on how long the 26-year-old will be sidelined. On Monday, the Ontario Athletic Commission suspended Ellenberger for 45 days and requested he obtain an X-ray. That’s when doctors determined his left haymaker would need to be operated on. Regardless, he’ll clearly be riding the pine for longer than the commission’s ban.

It certainly wasn’t the ideal way Ellenberger envisioned his vacation starting. However, having fought twice in less than three months, the Reign Training Center athlete is deserving of some much needed R&R, nonetheless.
