Former Pride Champ UFC Wanderlei Silva

Wanderlei Silva hasn’t posted the most impressive record over the last several years, but the former PrideFC champion remains one of MMA’s most popular athletes. If you’re one of his 69,000 followers on Twitter, you’re well aware of the mutual love he shares for his fanboys.

“The Axe Murderer” stakes claim to a dominant 33-10-1 record and managed to avoid another disastrous three-fight losing streak by defeating Michael Bisping at UFC 110. Silva has since been recovering from a July knee surgery.

A lengthy rehab process can be an arduous and lonely journey for an athlete, oftentimes planting countless seeds of doubt as to whether a triumphant return will ever be possible. Wandy credits his Twitter followers for helping him see the light during his latest journey.

“Every sentence I read, each day, is a great help,” Silva said of the positive messages he received from his admirers. “You guys give me great strength. There were moments of doubt if I was going to come back.

“I want to show everyone that I am ready again. Chris Leben, train hard, because my fans want to see a show on July 2nd.”

Silva meets Leben at “UFC 132: Cruz. vs Faber II” inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
